DRY PRO

UIAA 101 Certified Water Repellent Treatment

DRY PRO is ARMBURY's highest-level dry treatment, applying a Teflon®-based hydrophobic coating to both the core yarns and the finished sheath. This dual-layer approach meets the UIAA 101 Water Repellent standard, which requires the treated rope to absorb less than 5% of its weight in water after standardized abrasion and soaking. For context, untreated ropes absorb approximately 50% of their weight, and sheath-only treatments typically absorb 20–40%.

Wet nylon loses up to 20% of its tensile strength — water repellency directly preserves safety margins

Water absorption increases rope weight dramatically, creating fatigue for workers and climbers

Wet ropes freeze in cold conditions, becoming stiff and unusable — DRY PRO prevents ice formation in the fibers

The hydrophobic layer also repels dust and dirt, which acts as an internal abrasive that degrades fibers from within

The process begins before braiding: each core yarn is individually submerged in a Teflon®-based waterproofing bath and dried. After the rope is braided, the entire finished rope passes through a second treatment bath that coats the sheath. Finally, the treatment is thermally fixed — heat-cured to bond the coating permanently to the fiber surface. This three-stage process (core treatment, sheath treatment, thermal fixing) ensures the repellency persists through use and washing rather than wearing off after a few outings.
