DUOCOLOR

Permanent Integrated Midpoint Marking

DUOCOLOR is a permanent midpoint identification system where the sheath color pattern changes at the exact center of the rope. During the braiding process, specific sheath yarn strands are swapped for differently colored strands at the midpoint, creating a visible transition that is structurally part of the rope rather than an applied marking. This means the midpoint indicator cannot wear off, wash out, or become unreadable over time — a common problem with painted or printed middle marks.

Knowing the rope midpoint is critical for rappelling — feeding too much rope through the anchor means one end can pull through

Painted or inked middle marks wear off with use, especially on ropes running through belay devices and friction hitches

Chemical markers can potentially compromise fiber integrity; DUOCOLOR uses no chemicals on the rope surface

Clearly visible midpoint reduces setup time and eliminates guesswork in high-stress, time-critical operations

At the calculated midpoint of the braiding run, the braiding machine operator changes the bobbin to have a different pattern on the second half of the rope. The color change is visible as a clear shift in the sheath pattern for the full service life of the rope.

Transition Method
Permanent transition at midpoint by braider setting
Weak Points
No knots or weak points introduced
Identification
Visible integrated color pattern
Chemical Surface
No chemical surface application
Availability
48-strand dynamic ropes (9.4mm and 9.8mm bi-color)
  • Sport Climbing
  • Multi-Pitch Climbing
  • Rappelling
  • Guide Work

Available on select colors for 9.4mm and 9.8mm dynamic ropes. The midpoint marking lasts the full service life of the rope with no maintenance required.
